Pre-Planning Funeral Arrangement Workshop

According to The New York Times, every year, Americans arrange funerals for more than two million deceased at an average cost of $7,300 per funeral, not including cemetery costs. Many funerals go for $10,000 and up, ranking in some cases among the most expensive purchases many consumers make. A little research and planning can help keep funeral costs in check.

On Tuesday, March 21, 2017, the public is invited to attend a Pre-Planning Funeral Arrangement Workshop at the Lake City Public Library Community Center. In this workshop, a professional funeral advisor will share information you can use to prepare your family to help reduce the burden, the pressure and the costs of arranging a funeral, cremation, or burial. This program is free for the public to attend, but registration is required.  To register please call the library at 843-394-8071.

Mary S. Kelley South Carolina History Room

The Mary S. Kelly South Carolina History Room has an extensive collection of materials relating to Lake City, Florence County and other surrounding areas in the State of South Carolina. These resources are available to all residents and visitors. Due to the rareness of books in the collection, all materials must be used in the library. To assist researchers with their projects, the room has a state-of-the-art Microfilm Reader and a public computer.

The library cannot undertake individual research. However, the staff will gladly assist researchers with the use of these resources.

The South Carolina History Room is open during regular hours of the library.

Partnership with The Benefit Bank of S.C.
Local organizations are joining a national movement to get needed benefits and work supports in the hands of the underserved populations. The Benefit Bank of South Carolina (TBB-SC) is partnering with the library, Mayor’s Office, hospital, school district, senior citizens center and housing authority to bring “one-stop shops” to Lake City.

TBB-SC is working with agencies behind the scenes to make sure the process is seamless and efficient for the client. TBB-SC is funded by BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation and the Duke Endowment. Darla Moore invested in the organization to ensure that the program was fully developed in Lake City. With her help, the library has a part-time person dedicated to helping Lake City citizens prepare applications. For appointments, the community should contact the Lake City library at 843.394.8071. In the future, clients will be able to get assistance at partnering sites as well.
